Addictions and Mental Health Postgraduate Certificate


In the final semester of the ADMH program, students contribute to a social service agency by completing a capstone project in the field.

Types of Placements
Addiction Services 
Street Outreach and Shelters 
Harm Reduction Services and Outreach 
Community Agencies who support people with mental health and concurrent disorders. 
Day Treatment and Residential Programs
Student Roles Within Placement
Case Management;  working with clients to meet multiple needs. 
Program Development ,  implementation and facilitation 
Intake, assessment and referral
Provide group and individual support for clients and families. I.e. Individual and Group Counselling 
Outreach and education on issues around Addictions and Mental Health 
Key Learning
Provide and evaluate holistic, client-centered, culturally relevant assessments and interventions
Integrate skills and knowledge from a range of frameworks and contexts in addictions, mental health and concurrent disorders
Educate individuals, families, groups and the community regarding issues and approaches related to addictions and mental health.       
Actively participate in and contribute to, promoting development, in the improvement and advancement in the fields of addictions and mental health.
Integrate the contribution and the participation of the client, family, and community as  partners in designing and implementing care and services.

Placement Timeframe

Students have the option to complete hours on a full-time or part-time basis

Students starting the ADMH program in January 2017 will enter field placement in September 2017

280 hours. 8 weeks, full-time.
280 hours. 15 weeks part-time
