“We stress a social justice philosophy in this program. We want students to realize that they are part of a large community, and their role within that community is to recognize and use the power they have to make positive change.”
The Police Foundations program is a two-year, four-semester diploma program which prepares students for careers in public or private policing. This program stresses both the law enforcement and human relations skills required to police modern, socially, ethnically and technologically diverse communities. Students will learn how to investigate criminal offences, to intervene in crisis situations and to model ethical and professional behaviour. Students learn the basic theoretical knowledge and practical skills needed in the law enforcement field. Emotional maturity, good interpersonal skills, a strong desire to use creative problem solving and good leadership qualities will be needed to make positive change in our communities.
This state-of-the-art facility is designed to give you the edge. Develop your skills in the forensic studio, simulated crime scenes, mock interview rooms and view your classmates 'at work' in the overhead viewing theatre and critique their performance, creep through a simulated crime scene from the viewing theatre. The mock crime scene apartment is one of the new newest labs built at Humber's Lakeshore Campus. See how it all works through our Interactive Crime Scene Lab.
Community service opportunities are an integral part of the curriculum and will broaden your understanding of the role of justice in the community.
The Police Foundations diploma program is offered online for part-time students. The flexibility of online delivery allows students to study at their own pace, and on their own time. The fees are paid on a per-course basis. For our Police Foundations (Continuing Education) website Click Here.
Our Police Foundations diploma program is also offered in-class on a part-time basis. Evening in-class delivery allows students to attend classes while continuing to work during the day. The fees are paid on a per-course basis. For our Police Foundations (Continuing Education) website Click Here.
