Overview

An organization relies on sound management and leadership to successfully fulfill its mandate. Leadership and Management is comprised of a set of skills, which can be learned and a set of traits, which can be developed.

As a prerequisite, this course will provide students with an overview of leading and managing their work collaboratively within a violence-against-women (VAW) context. It will address areas related to identifying leadership strengths and styles, understanding power and general management skills. It will introduce information, strategies and best practices for effective staff management and supervision.

Students will be prepared to:

  • understand the history of the VAW movement and the root causes of violence against women
  • realize issues of power and intersectionality as they apply to leadership
  • explore models of management and leadership including how to select and use best practices
  • understand models of coaching, team building and organizational planning and development

Note: VAW.100 is the prerequisite for VAW. 101 Financial Management Skills and VAW. 102 Programme Development and VAW.103 Human Resources Management Skills.
