This course highlights best practice investigative interviewing skills and how to apply them during the various stages of the investigative process. Students develop interviewing skills necessary to elicit reliable information from victims, witnesses, and suspects in the course of investigations. Students plan for and conduct professional investigative interviews, and learn the importance of creating a formal record of the interview. Students use legal principles and apply them to investigative interviewing, including those developed in common law and those enshrined in the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms. Students also examines the unique characteristics and circumstances of investigations in the private/corporate sector.
