On June 1, 2018, the SSCS, led by faculty John Kosmopoulos hosted the 2018 conference for the DSW and BBS programs. We invited Dr. John Chan, a consulting child and adolescent psychiatrist with the Centre for Behaviour Health Services, Mackenzie Health, to speak to a group of 75 professionals and students on his topic “How to Baffle and then Appreciate a Psychiatrist.”

On May 10th, 2018, the School of Social and Community Services hosted the Neighbourhood Officer Research Symposium at its Centre for Entrepreneurship. The symposium was an opportunity for police and criminal justice professionals to engage in a day long conversation with community leaders and academics about Neighbourhood Policing.

The SSCS in partnership with the Rexdale Community and Legal Clinic hosted an all-day Mental Health Conference on Thursday, June 14, 2018 at Humber north with 70 participants in attendance. The Humber planning team included: Natalie Blake-Noel, Sabra Desai, Linda Hill, Art Lockhart, Tonia Richard, Aqeel Saeid and Tameka Francis (Rexdale Community Legal Clinic).

Young Criminal Justice Professionals Networking Gala

On Thursday March 8, students from SSCS’ various justice studies programs were invited to attend the 4th Annual YCJP Networking Gala. The event began with an opening address from Deputy Minister of Correctional Services Sam Erry discussing Bill 195 and, if passed, the wellness improvements it would make for inmates in the correctional system.
