Dr. Jaspreet Bal, a professor in the Child and Youth Care program, recently returned from an incredible week at the University College Absalon, Denmark, where she participated in the DUVE project. Project members all had the chance to teach about the state of violence against children in their respective countries including Denmark, Uganda, Vietnam, and Canada. The interdisciplinary group including a physiotherapist, a nurse, a midwife, a teacher, an Early Childhood Educator and of course, a Child and Youth Care worker!
There were also many people working on different prevention strategies including a national helpline, health researchers and even a preschool that works with children rejected from other schools. The next steps in the project are to build an online platform with all four countries including e-learning modules for students and different tools for the prevention of violence against children in varied cultural settings.
Jaspreet will continue this important work as part of a team that will meet monthly to help create this module. Also, as a part of the Erasmus funding, the project team will be disseminating information about the work they are doing.
