This course introduces learners to interpersonal and group communication skills that are fundamental to professional practice in human services. A focus on self-awareness, self-management, and effective verbal and non-verbal communication will form the basis for developing social service worker interventions and engaging in professional collaboration. Bridging theory and practice within an interactive classroom format, learners will engage with cross-cultural awareness and communication, giving and receiving feedback, managing emotions effectively, and addressing and resolving conflict. Through skills-based group exercises and individual self-reflections, learners will be guided in developing foundational interpersonal communication skills to work effectively with diverse individuals, client groups, and professional teams.
