Aishwarya's Experience at Humber

Please tell us about your time at Humber College. What was the best part of it?

My course was at the Humber Lakeshore campus, a beautifully designed campus with loads of student friendly facilities and easily accessible. Apart from the facilities, the course structure was both rigorous and well-balanced, facilitating deep understanding. Furthermore, the lecturers demonstrated strong expertise in their subjects and taught with clarity and professionalism. Another great aspect was the mentorship and guidance opportunities with the lecturers which greatly assisted me in obtaining clarity about my future goals and possibilities. The faculty also offered insightful advice regarding professional development and further academic or career prospects, this in turn assisted me in choosing a field that not only had endless opportunities but also one that I greatly admired.

Please tell us about your experience since graduating.

Since graduating, I was employed as a full-time security guard at a prominent commercial building in downtown Toronto. This position has afforded me the opportunity to directly apply the security principles and theories I studied, translating academic knowledge into real-world practice. In addition to reinforcing my foundational understanding, the role has significantly enhanced my practical skills, providing invaluable hands-on experience in managing security operations, responding to emergencies, and ensuring the safety of both personnel and property. This experience has further deepened my expertise in the security domain and equipped me with a more comprehensive understanding of the complexities and responsibilities inherent in the field.

Subsequently, I transitioned into the role of Security Passcard Administrator, where I took on responsibility for managing the building’s security system. This role involved overseeing the system’s daily operations, troubleshooting technical issues, and providing support to tenants with access control concerns. Additionally, I liaised with vendors and addressed a wide range of security-related challenges, often resolving complex issues on a daily basis. This experience piqued my interest in cybersecurity and security systems, prompting me to pursue further specialization in the field. Subsequently, I decided to obtain a certification, which I successfully achieved with the educational support provided by my employer.

I am currently pursuing further studies to expand my knowledge and expertise in the fields of cybersecurity and security systems, with the goal of advancing in these areas and achieving long-term success in the future.

What do you find most satisfying about your career choice?

The most fulfilling aspect of my career choice is that it is not only a field I deeply admire and am passionate about, but it also offers boundless opportunities, both in the present and the future. The field of cybersecurity is crucial not only for securing systems, but also for providing personal satisfaction, as it plays a vital role in protecting the digital assets and financial well-being of individuals who have dedicated significant effort to creating and acquiring them.
