Anthony's Experience at Humber

Please tell us about your time at Humber College. What was the best part of it?

In the Child and Youth Care program, every day was a dynamic journey into the complexities of nurturing young minds and souls. Through a blend of theory and hands-on experience, we delved into child development, psychology, and social work. Classroom discussions were vibrant with perspectives on diverse family structures, cultural backgrounds, and developmental stages.

Field placements were the heartbeat of our education, where theory met reality. Working in community centers, schools, and residential facilities, we encountered the raw beauty and challenges of supporting children and youth facing adversity. From facilitating group therapy sessions to advocating for educational resources, every interaction deepened our understanding of resilience and empathy.

The program fostered a tight-knit community of learners bonded by a shared passion for making a difference.

Please tell us about your experience since graduating.

Since graduation I’ve worked in many different positions that have all added new skills and strategies to my clinical skillset. In every new position I was grateful for the preparation and foundation of skills I gained through Humber College.

I am currently involved in the support of complex cases and have continued to learn and grow with each passing day.

What do you find most satisfying about your career choice?

Every day is a canvas for building brighter futures. From the first hesitant smile of a troubled teen to the triumphant moment a child conquers their fears, my job is a privilege of witnessing resilience in action. Whether it's advocating for resources, offering a listening ear, or simply being a consistent presence in their lives, the joy comes from knowing that I am making a tangible difference.

I'm not just a professional; I'm a mentor, a confidant, and sometimes, a beacon of hope. And in the tapestry of their stories, I find fulfillment, knowing that each day brings the opportunity to sow seeds of positive change and witness them blossom into resilient, empowered individuals.
