Please tell us about your time at Humber College. What was the best part of it?
Well, after my high school graduation, I was nervous at first. Transitioning from a public high school to a college was a big step, a not a lightly one. It took some time to get use to the new environment, the way classes were taught, the scheduling, getting out of the comfort zone and pursue the education that I needed to help me move up in my career.
One of the best parts of my Humber experience was the sense of community. The diversity on campus was truly inspiring. I was able to learn alongside people from different cultures, backgrounds, and perspectives, which broadened my own worldview. Group projects, student events, and campus activities created countless opportunities to connect, collaborate, and form friendships that still last today.
I also valued the extensive resources Humber offered, which supported me during challenging moments. Whether it was tutoring services, the ability to write deferred exams in times of personal emergencies, or guidance from education coordinators in scheduling classes and mapping out my career path, there was always help available.
Overall, the best part was the community, where I made some good memories and tools that assisted me to find the best road to my own success.
Please tell us about your experience since graduating.
Since graduating from Humber College, my career has been a steady progression built on the foundation of the education and experiences I gained there. I began as a Loss Prevention Officer, where I applied the investigative, communication, and problem-solving skills I developed during my studies. This role gave me hands-on experience in security operations and incident management, preparing me for greater responsibility.
I was soon promoted to Training Supervisor, where I drew on my leadership and organizational skills to mentor new team members and develop training programs. My ability to manage people effectively, a skill I honed through group work, presentations, and collaborative projects at Humber, proved essential.
From there, I advanced to District Manager for a security firm, overseeing multiple sites and ensuring operational excellence, with both strategic thinking and critical analysis.
Today, I serve as a Youth Corrections Security Manager, where I’m responsible for maintaining safety and security of my staff and young individuals, guiding staff, and fostering rehabilitation-focused environments. Every step of my career has been strengthened by the knowledge, discipline, and confidence I gained from both life experience and education which has helped me reach this level and continue to grow professionally.
What do you find most satisfying about your career choice?
What I find most satisfying about my career is the opportunity to make a difference in people’s lives while leading teams toward a common goal. Working in youth corrections, I have the privilege of creating a safe environment, not only for staff but also for the young individuals in our care. This role allows me to balance security with compassion, ensuring that safety protocols are met while also supporting rehabilitation and personal growth for those we serve.
Another rewarding aspect is the opportunity to lead and inspire my team. I value the chance to guide staff in building their skills, encourage their professional growth, and create a workplace culture grounded in trust, accountability, and mutual respect. Seeing team members gain confidence, take initiative, and excel in their roles is incredibly fulfilling, and it reflects the same kind of support and guidance that shaped my own career journey.
The dynamic nature of the work keeps me engaged and challenged. I love the saying “No two days are the same”, and each situation requires critical thinking, adaptability, and sound judgment. Knowing that my decisions and guidance directly contribute to safety, progress, and positive outcomes is incredibly motivating.
Ultimately, the most satisfying part is knowing that my career aligns with my values and gives me a meaningful way to serve both my team and my community.
