Ashell's Experience at Humber

Please tell us about your time at Humber College. What was the best part of it?

My Humber experiences were amazing. I loved 95% of the professors I interacted with, as they were always flexible, patient and passion about their work. I also appreciated the academic level at which we were taught- it felt like a good medium of both university and college. The highlight of my experience is all the support the school offered, as well as the multiple field experience opportunities. My final placement led to me securing employment- I have been working with LOFT Community Services since spring 2018.

Please tell us about your experience since graduating.

Since graduating, I have worked in both residential and community settings, working with youth with both complex and diverse needs. My roles include: case-management, documentation, fostering connections and collaboration, navigating crisis and community resources, as well as providing mild counselling.

What do you find most satisfying about your career choice?

Watching my youths win struggles and achieve their goals is the most satisfying thing about my job- it feels like I did my part. The work I do is exhausting physically and mentally, but every time I see my youth succeed, I am reminded why I do what I do, and there is nothing like that feeling, it is fulfilling.
