Boris's Experience at Humber

Please tell us about your time at Humber College. What was the best part of it?

While being a student at Humber College, I had the privilege of engaging with a vibrant community of peers who shared my interests. The camaraderie and collaborative spirit were invigorating. Equally impactful were the subject matter professors who generously imparted their wisdom and provided invaluable advice. One of the most remarkable aspects was the exposure to diverse career opportunities within the law enforcement sector. These were jobs I hadn’t even known existed before! The program broadened my horizons, and I am immensely grateful for that. Moreover, the foundational knowledge I gained set me apart in the competitive job application pool. It equipped me with the tools to navigate various aspects of this dynamic field. Overall, my time at Humber was a transformative experience that shaped my professional journey in profound ways.

Please tell us about your experience since graduating.

During my time as a student in Protection, Security, and Investigation, I swiftly secured a position in the security industry. The program’s robust knowledge base propelled me to a supervisor role within a month. It was an exhilarating start to my career. In 2022, I embarked on a full-time role as a Special Constable with the Toronto Police Service. The responsibilities were both challenging and rewarding. However, my ultimate aspiration was to become a Recruit Constable with Peel Regional Police. Just a month ago, that dream materialized—a pivotal moment in my professional life.

But my journey didn’t stop there. Thanks to the PSI Program’s partnership with Royal Roads University, I was accepted into the third year of the Justice Studies Program. This unique collaboration allows me to complete my undergraduate degree in just four additional semesters. It’s an exciting path toward further education and career advancement.

What do you find most satisfying about your career choice?

As a recent graduate of Humber College’s Protection, Security, and Investigation diploma, and now a recruited police constable, I find immense satisfaction in knowing that my career choice allows me to make a tangible difference in the community. The most gratifying aspect is the opportunity to serve and protect, which aligns perfectly with my passion for upholding justice and fostering a safe environment for all. The comprehensive training and education I received at Humber College have equipped me with the necessary skills to approach every situation with confidence, empathy, and professionalism. Each day presents a new challenge, and the ability to adapt and learn is exhilarating. The prospect of growth, both personally and professionally, and the chance to positively impact lives are what I find most satisfying about my career choice. It’s not just a job; it’s a commitment to public service and continuous improvement, which is both rewarding and inspiring.
