Ceyda's Experience at Humber

Please tell us about your time at Humber College. What was the best part of it?

The best part of being in Humber was having the chance to be able to get educated in several aspects of law enforcement and having the opportunity to get additional credentials to apply for security and investigation licenses in Ontario. Humber helped me to explore a variety of perspectives of security measures that help with my career path. Having the opportunity to be in Humber was to meet with professionals who were directly coming from the field law enforcement to give us best practices of law enforcement. Besides that, their life experience was part of being with Humber to be able to get the advice from the professionals to make a decision in order to take the career path.

Please tell us about your experience since graduating.

Since graduating from Humber, I got a casual security job within Paladin Security, and I was able to pick up shifts from different sites. This gave me opportunities to work in construction, condos, and hospital facilities which I was able to get to learn different perspectives of security in different locations and situations. I was hired by Paladin Security right after my graduation because the Protection, Security and Investigation program provided me the opportunity to take additional course to complete my Security License before graduation. Having this opportunity within Humber had played an important role in my career to be able to find my job.

After working in several locations, I later learned and decided that hospital facilities were the best location for me to learn more about the security sector and improve my knowledge. I found a full-time position at Mackenzie Health Richmond Hill as a core guard within Paladin Security. Working at this facility has been very challenging and helpful at the same time for me, where I have learned many skills to assist community members and be supportive.

After two years of experience in the core guard position, I was promoted to the Team Lead/Supervisor position within Paladin Security. Being able to guide and provide the most effective support and help to my team members was the most successful experience I ever achieved.

After a year and half, I had the opportunity to get hired by York University Security where I could extend my knowledge of security to able to improve my skills and communication skills every point of my career.

I’m currently still working in York University Security, and I am in the process of applying for policing where I could use my skills and experience to help and support my community.

What do you find most satisfying about your career choice?

The most satisfying part of my career choice is to be able to help others and support them through their day/night and by being able to have the opportunities out there to improve yourself, we can make the difference in that person's day by helping them and supporting them. This career path is always a learning curve. I’m always learning from my colleagues and people that I interact with each day. Each person and each situation teaches something different and helps improve your skills, whether it’s communication or management skills.
