Cody's Experience at Humber

Please tell us about your time at Humber College. What was the best part of it?

I had a wonderful time at Humber, and I look back with fond memories of my instructors and classmates. A special shout out to Daniel Schwartz, Pat Bishop and Jake Davis- these instructors definitely went above and beyond and helped me get the most out of the experience that I could. They were patient, knowledgeable and knew how to relay the material in a way that showed how useful it would be and not just the theory, but how we could apply it. The main reason I chose Humber was the job shadow program, allowing me to get real life, firsthand experience in the field and learn from some of the best. It was absolutely invaluable to me and something I treasure now.

Please tell us about your experience since graduating.

Since graduating, I have been in the Security/Law Enforcement field. I have over 7 years of security experience, with both Private Investigation and undercover/plain-clothes loss prevention work, amassing over 800 arrests, also working in supervisory and managerial roles. I have numerous certificates and qualifications, ranging from basic use of force to crisis negotiation. I have worked as a Toronto Police Communications Operator, taking emergency and non-emergency calls, and dispatching Police Officers, I have also been a Corrections Officer at a Provincial facility, and since 2022, I have been a Parking Enforcement Officer for Toronto Police, and I am currently an Acting Patrol Supervisor.

What do you find most satisfying about your career choice?

Besides the opportunity to help the community, I think the biggest satisfaction is the opportunity to make a difference. Whether the difference is changing someone’s negative opinion of law enforcement, helping someone in their day-to-day or something life threatening, making that difference is key. I strive every day to have more positive interactions than negative, and while negative interactions come with the job description, if I can reduce those as much as possible, it can be that positive change that someone needs.
