Danielle's Experience at Humber

Please tell us about your time at Humber College. What was the best part of it?

Humber College provided me with all of the tools and information needed to make a decision on my career. I was granted opportunities for placement, had industry professionals as professors, and worked with like-minded people as part of the Criminal Justice Program. The best part for me is that a large number of my classmates were older students coming back to school to enrich their professional development for a variety of reasons. The diversity of experiences from my classmates and professors enhanced my learning in a way that I appreciate more than anything!

The work-life balance of my program was also beneficial, as I was able to work full time in my desired field while also tacking full time school. Being able to work this job while I was in school set me up for post-graduation success!

Please tell us about your experience since graduating.

Since graduating the Criminal Justice program, I have worked for two municipalities in the criminal justice field. My first job post-graduation was a seasonal role as a Municipal Compliance Officer for the Municipality of Jasper, followed by a full time role as a Community Peace Officer / Paid Parking Team Lead at the Town of Canmore. My education at Humber set me up for success in gaining a leadership position in my field.

I am also currently pursuing a Masters degree in Public Safety. Obtaining my Bachelor’s degree at Humber set me up with the tools I needed to do in order to get accepted into and excel in Graduate school.

What do you find most satisfying about your career choice?

I think that being able to test the waters for my field of choice while at Humber was the key in feeling satisfied with my decisions, and overall loving my job today. I was able to see what I did and did not like, and choose a rewarding and fulfilling career based on those experiences. I am incredibly happy to have gone down the career path I did, as I am set for life!
