Garrett's Experience at Humber
Please tell us about your time at Humber College. What was the best part of it?
During my time at Humber, I had the pleasure of experiencing a multitude of things. I met many different people from all different places throughout the country and made some great friends that have also become successful in their own professions. The Lakeshore campus went through various changes during my time, which included a new gym that was very needed and it became a place I would spend most of my time (other than studying of course). The professors at Humber came from various backgrounds including: Ex-Military, Policing, Risk Management, and various other areas in the public and private sector. My program also provided the ability to network and meet professionals with extensive knowledge in the industry.
Please tell us about your experience since graduating.
Since graduating Humber in 2017, I have had the opportunity to build my professional portfolio by working in sport and event security, parking enforcement, and then ultimately going back to school to further my education in Forensic Accounting and Fraud Investigation. Due to gaining this experience and further education, it allowed me to pursue and achieve my dream position of working in Intelligence.
What do you find most satisfying about your career choice?
Working in the intelligence field means being able to adapt and adjust on the fly due to the ever-changing nature of the industry and fast paced environment. Now that being said, I wouldn’t change my decision of entering this field for anything else. It has given me a purpose knowing that the information I share may impact the decisions made in helping my company and its people. Thanks to Humber, I was able to build the knowledge and skills that have allowed me to reach the goals that I had set out on my original “5 Year Plan” when I started my journey in 2015. I hope to continue in this industry for the next 30+ years and hope to have the opportunity to pay back those who have helped me along the way.
