Please tell us about your time at Humber College. What was the best part of it?
My time at Humber College was the most valuable period I’ve ever spent in any educational institution. I studied Protection, Security & Investigation under the guidance of experienced professionals who were also professors. This program provided comprehensive insights into the field and the modern era of law enforcement. As an immigrant without any relatives in Canada, I lacked knowledge about law enforcement, but through this program, I not only learned about policing but also explored other career paths within law enforcement, such as cybersecurity, crime analysis, border security, and national security and intelligence, including CSIS.
The hands-on experience gained through simulation labs and guest lectures further enriched my understanding of the field. Moreover, I expanded my professional network at Humber College beyond my expectations. The professors were incredibly supportive, offering guidance on career paths and assisting with personal challenges. Initially uncertain about pursuing an undergraduate degree for further advancement, the encouragement and guidance from the professors helped me navigate this decision with confidence.
Please tell us about your experience since graduating.
Since graduating, my experience has been fantastic. I gained admission to the Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice program in the second year, thanks to my PSI diploma. Landing a part-time job as a security officer at the Royal Ontario Museum has been a significant achievement for me. Despite being a part-time guard, I receive all benefits, which I’m truly grateful for. My college diploma played a crucial role in securing this position, and I highly recommend the PSI diploma to anyone interested in a career in law enforcement. Armed with the basics of law enforcement, not just in Canada but globally, I am continuing my degree with newfound confidence. This experience has not only expanded my knowledge but also reinforced my passion for serving in the field of criminal justice.
Through this diploma I learned about the contemporary law enforcement field. This knowledge has been invaluable in helping me to understand the challenges posed by the ever-changing dynamics of society. I am now better equipped to serve and protect the public. I am excited to continue my educational journey and use my newfound skills to make a positive impact on my community.
What do you find most satisfying about your career choice?
The most satisfying aspect of my career choice in criminal justice is the opportunity to make a positive impact on society. Every day, I have the chance to contribute to the safety and well-being of individuals and communities. The field of criminal justice is not an easy task, as everyone, including the media, politicians, academic institutions, and the public, keeps a close eye on the actions of officers. Despite being watched by everyone; we still have to provide great service despite being criticized by the media and the public.
On the other hand, when you do a good job and save somebody's life from threat or violence, it gives you peace of mind and honor. Every day is a new day for an officer as he or she faces new challenges in the field. We are not just saving ourselves; we are saving the communities from threats and offenders. Every single person in law enforcement from different backgrounds puts his or her stake in making the community safe so people can enjoy their lives with families and kids.
