Lorraine's Experience at Humber

Please tell us about your time at Humber College. What was the best part of it?

I was an international student, and of all the schools recommended to me by my educational consultant, I can say I have chosen the right school and the right program. I am a mature learner. I have had a completely different career profile back home, hence the jitters I felt on my first day of class. I did not expect, though, that my first day of school would be the start of my best days as a Humber student. I am mostly the same age as my professors, and 98% of my classmates are almost the same age as my eldest son, so I thrived within both wavelength and trajectory.

I had the best time learning with everyone! From individual work to group work, I learned a lot from it, especially from those simulation activities, writing good reports, and proper note-taking that I had to work through. Being in the security sector now, the hands-on experience from my courses gave me a good foundation for navigating what's "in the field". I am glad I paid attention; it paved the way and opened opportunities for me.

Please tell us about your experience since graduating.

I am glad to share that while I was completing my program, it has already opened up employment opportunities for me. I was able to secure my security guard & private investigator's license. With the constant networking assistance provided specifically by our program coordinator, Mr. Daniel Schwartz, I was able to secure employment with Maple Leafs Sports & Entertainment as a permanent part-time event security officer and, a few months later, a seasonal security guard for the Toronto Blue Jays. Despite having no experience in the security sector, I was able to adjust to the job with ease because of the theoretical and simulation activities I did at Humber.

What do you find most satisfying about your career choice?

I am most satisfied that I am well-equipped and a notch higher to be successful in my chosen field because I was able to learn from the seasoned, exceptional, and the crème de la crème of the Humber PSI program and in their respective industries of expertise!
