Marco's Experience at Humber

Please tell us about your time at Humber College. What was the best part of it?

Once I got accepted at Humber I was really excited since I truly believed that it could have been a career change pursuing a Canadian degree related to law enforcement. I moved from Italy in 2016 and I started this program when I was 31 (never touched a book in the past 10 years). Unfortunately, COVID made the first 2 semesters fully online which made the experience easier, but also a bit disappointing and group projects came with challenges. Third and fourth semester, we had many courses in person and the experience was amazing. The interaction with professors and classmates were a game changer. What I loved most about this program is how all of the professors were very knowledgeable, skilled and had primary experience on the field. In addition, through the year, we had many guest speakers from police and security world and learning from them or taking advices was very beneficial. Thanks to Humber I joined ASIS which gave me 2 mentors that guide me through my education and supported me till my actual job (still in touch with them).

Please tell us about your experience since graduating.

Since I graduated my experience was just easy and smooth. While I was in my fourth semester I’ve applied for Toronto Police and believe it or not after I graduated I got hired realizing my biggest dream which was becoming a police officer.

What do you find most satisfying about your career choice?

I chose the job that I’ve always wanted to do and every day it amazes me how a foreign citizen like me was able to move 7000km away chasing a dream and realize it. I really love my job since I’m in an organization like TPS where I can and I will have a lot of opportunities and Humber played a huge role in this. While I was at the Ontario Police College, most of the material that I had to study it was covered on my courses at Humber so everything was smoother.

Many people will not like police, but for me, being out there and interacting with the community gives me so much reward. This is the best job you can ever have.
