Please tell us about your time at Humber College. What was the best part of it?
The thing that I appreciated most about Humber College and the PSI program in particular is the sense of community. I really felt familiar with many of my classmates and instructors. These relationships are important to build and maintain to kickstart and advance your career. Outside of class, I could often be found at the Humber Lake Shore Fitness Center getting a workout in. I liked the amenities and found it to be an overall good atmosphere. I even got an alumni membership so I can still use the gym post-graduation. I am also a big pizza fan and would often go to the Pizzaiolo next to the Lake Shore Campus for lunch. I frequently bumped into classmates and sometimes even professors here. What is also nice about the Lake Shore Campus is that it is nestled within Colonel Samuel Smith Park right on Lake Ontario. There are lots of trails and it is a nice place to go for a walk, relax, and destress.
Please tell us about your experience since graduating.
In my final semester in the PSI program, I was able to secure a part-time job doing investigative work for a fully online private investigation firm. This meant that I got to work from home, which was a nice perk. The main thing I did for them was Skip Tracing, which refers to finding current locations/addresses for people. I learned a lot about investigative techniques and strategies during my time here and I even continued with the firm full time after my graduation. Using the skills I learned here, I was able to secure another Skip Tracing job at EdenPark which is a vehicle financing company and a subsidiary of Fairstone Financial. As of right now, this is still my current job where I use Skip Tracing to do investigative work for collections purposes.
What do you find most satisfying about your career choice?
Investigative work can be challenging and frustrating, but this is what makes it extremely satisfying when leads come together and you finally find what you are looking for. It’s an incredible feeling when you have been working on something for so long and finally get that one lead that solves the whole case. They make movies and tv about investigative work and it’s because it can be really exciting. I am really glad that I decided to set out on this career path.
