Please tell us about your time at Humber College. What was the best part of it?
My time at Humber College was a pivotal chapter in my life, marked by both personal and professional growth. The college’s vibrant community and diverse programs offered a rich environment for exploration and learning. I appreciated the hands-on approach offered through the Child and Youth Care program, which bridged theory with real-world practice and honed my practical skills. The guidance and support from dedicated faculty were invaluable, providing insight and encouragement that propelled me through challenging projects. Overall, Humber College not only deepened my knowledge and expertise but also equipped me with the confidence and capabilities needed to excel in my field.
Please tell us about your experience since graduating.
Since graduating, my career has been fulfilling and impactful, as I've had the privilege of working in various mental health and community settings. My experience spans from providing support in live-in treatment mental health facilities to working in emergency shelters and community programs, where I’ve directly engaged with individuals facing significant mental health and substance use challenges. Each role has enriched my understanding of mental health issues and strengthened my ability to offer compassionate and individualized support. Currently, I am a Clinical Lead with the Toronto Community Crisis Team at the Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA Toronto). In this role, I oversee a dedicated team of mental health professionals, ensuring that our interventions are both effective and compassionate.
What do you find most satisfying about your career choice?
What I find most satisfying about my career choice is the opportunity to make a tangible difference in people’s lives during their most vulnerable moments. Working in mental health care, especially in a role like Clinical Lead with the Toronto Community Crisis Team, allows me to lead a team of crisis workers to provide immediate, compassionate support to individuals in crisis. The opportunity to see firsthand and play a role in the evolution of mental health emergency services in the City of Toronto brings a deep sense of fulfillment.
