Zohair's Experience at Humber

Please tell us about your time at Humber College. What was the best part of it?

My time in Humber’s PSI program was truly transformational. The best part was how consistently the classroom connected to real-world practice. Instructors with extensive industry experience challenged us to think critically, act ethically, and apply investigative and risk management principles to practical scenarios. Group projects and presentations strengthened my communication and teamwork, while hands-on exercises broadened my technical skills. Balancing full-time work in security compliance with my studies meant that every lesson was immediately applicable, giving the program a sense of urgency and purpose. The diverse cohort and approachable faculty built a strong network of peers and mentors whose perspectives pushed me to grow. Humber didn’t just teach techniques; it sharpened my judgment, reinforced my values, and gave me the professional confidence to lead under pressure.

Please tell us about your experience since graduating.

Since graduating, I have continued working in security compliance within the private and contract security sector for one of Canada’s largest providers. The PSI program’s practical curriculum and strong mentorship prepared me to enhance compliance frameworks, design effective training, lead audits, and engage clients with greater clarity and credibility. While studying, I also earned the Certified Protection Professional (CPP) designation from ASIS International, becoming one of the youngest CPP holders in Canada at 25. That milestone, combined with Humber’s training, strengthened my ability to work to global standards and mentor others entering the profession. I now focus on creating pathways for newcomers and junior staff, while positioning myself for leadership opportunities across private, public, and government sectors — both locally and internationally.

What do you find most satisfying about your career choice?

What I find most satisfying is the tangible impact my work has on people and communities. Security compliance is about more than procedures; it is about building trust, ensuring safety, and enabling organizations to operate with integrity. I take pride in making sound, legally informed decisions and in developing systems and training that improve outcomes for both frontline staff and clients. Equally rewarding is mentoring and guiding newcomers into the industry, helping them find their footing and grow their potential. For me, the combination of operational problem-solving, ethical leadership, and the opportunity to lift others defines why I chose this path — and why I remain committed to advancing it every day.
