On February 3rd, 2024, Seneca - King Campus and Humber College collaborated to organize the inaugural Crime Scene Investigation (CSI) inter-collegiate challenge. The event, which attracted over 100 participants from Humber College, University of Guelph-Humber, and Seneca Polytechnic, featured 45 students from disciplines including Police Foundations (PFP), Protection, Security and Investigations (PSI), and other Criminal Justice programs. Fifteen teams rotated through designated crime scenes during the eight-hour event.
The challenge provided valuable experiential learning experiences for the students involved. They showcased their abilities in collaboration, critical thinking, deductive reasoning, and forensic investigation. The Humber College teams received guidance and mentorship from students of the Forensic Identification Post Graduate Certificate (FI) program, who generously donated their time to mentor the students on crime scene processing techniques.
The collaboration between Seneca and Humber was a concerted effort to offer students a platform to demonstrate experiential learning and applied skills in a real-world setting.
