PFP Students Dive into Fall Experiential Opportunities
This Fall the Police Foundations Program (PFP) students engaged in many experiential opportunities.
On September 27, 2025, seventeen of our Semester 3 PFP students took part in the Rescue IPE Weekend held at the North Campus. From 7:30am to 5:00pm, students engaged in a mock mass casualty crisis simulation alongside students from the Paramedic, Pre-Firefighter, Emergency Telecommunications and the Nursing programs. Guided by Professors Frank Doto and Peter Iskander, as well as PFP graduate and current York Regional Police Services Officer Ryan Forsythe, the students spent the morning learning from industry experts. In the afternoon, they put their knowledge into action as they collaborated across disciplines to respond to a mock mass casualty crisis scenario.
On October 16, five Humber Police Foundation Program students took part in the York Regional Police Services inaugural Invitational Fitness Challenge. Our Semester 3 students competed with Seneca, Conestoga, Centennial, University of Guelph-Humber and YRP Student Cadets in the PREP test, Shuttle Run, pushups and case report writing. It was a day full of fun and excitement as each student showcased their incredible talents. Our female athlete completed the most pushups (over 50!). Our two male athletes finished at Level 10 for the Shuttle Run. Our female athlete finished at Level 8.5 on the Shuttle Run. Our male athlete finished the PREP in 2 minutes and 18 seconds! And our female case report-writing competitor braved the competition in writing an exceptional report while in a loud, cold gymnasium. A big thank you to our partners at York Regional Police Services, Stefan Naughton and Jessica Manchee, for inviting us.
From September to October 2025, eight of our senior PFP students took part in the Before the Badge Program with Peel Police Services. Now in its second-year running, our students competed with Sheridan College PFP students in a six-week unpaid pre-cadet internship. Students were exposed to various units, got to drive the police cruiser on the track, and engaged in mock crisis simulations. Successful students were invited to apply for the Cadet position for Peel Regional Police for the 2026 hiring classes. A big thank you to the PFP faculty and Sgt. Leon Stewart and Acting Sgt. Rebecca Gregoire in supporting our students.
