The Winter 2025 semester was busy with events and achievements for the Police Foundations (PFP) program. In March 2025, five PFP students competed in the Peel Regional Police Services Annual Fit Challenge. Students competed with Peel Police Cadets and seven other PFP college programs for the P.I.N. fitness assessment. Humber PFP placed 1st for best male-identifying athlete! A big congratulations to Zachary Correia who scored level 13 on the Shuttle Run test. Also, a big congratulations to PFP students Julia Sloniewski, Matthew Nascimento, Tavleen Kaur and Tenzin Gonpo for representing Humber PFP and for a job well done!
Also in March, 37 PFP students were formally invested into the TPS Rovers Crew. With special thanks to PFP Alumni Scott Walker for his guidance and support, our students were paraded and formally assessed by Police Chief Myron Demkiw. Howie the Hawk was also on site to help celebrate our students’ achievements.
In April, Humber and TPS Rovers took part in the Polar Plunge to raise funds for the Special Olympics. The PFP faculty are very proud of our current and former students for going above and beyond (and for their bravery in jumping into extremely cold water!) taking part in such a noble cause. Also, a big shout out to our very own Professor Matt Moyer for helping lead this amazing initiative.
In April 2025, Peel Regional Police Services, 11 Division attended the Lakeshore Campus for Coffee with Cops. PFP students, along with other students in the FSCS justice portfolio met with Peel police officers, learned and received feedback with them and built networks and mentors, all the while sharing coffee and donuts.
Police services attended the Lakeshore Campus to meet with PFP and justice students to recruit and hire. TPS and YRP all held PREP test events throughout the Winter 2025 term. Successful students who passed the fitness tests were given a fast-pass certificate to apply for the service and go straight to interviews and pre-background questionnaires to be hired as cadets and/or constables for the hiring classes of 2025. A big thank you to PFP fitness faculty Franco Zaffino for helping facilitate the YRP Shuttle Run Test. Also, a big thank you to Henri Berube for setting up the Peel PREP hiring test for seven of our students with Peel Regional Police Services.
The RCMP also attended campus to mentor students on the Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA). This is a service offered solely to candidates in Ontario. Students who attended received instruction, mentorship and feedback on how to compete in the PFA and prepare for their careers in the RCMP.
