This semester Child and Youth Care Advanced Diploma program students engaged in a different capstone project. The focus was on developing their critical thinking and creativity to develop recommendations for the field of Child and Youth Care to help strengthen and decolonize practice. In addition to sharing their lived experiences and field placements, students engaged with Social Work students from the University of Strathclyde in Scotland to research best practices in the UK and Canada and develop their recommendations for change. Students self-identified topics of interest that included: youth recidivism in the youth criminal justice system, supporting rural areas, the impact of Toronto’s housing crisis on youth and equity in education: advancing inclusive practices for Black and racialized communities, to name a few. The semester finished with presentations and professional reports that we hope to publish soon. We also took our project on the road to Showcase 2025!
