Spotlight on Student Success: Celebrating CJS Field Placement Achievements

Community and Justice Services students demonstrated impressive professionalism and dedication during their field placements this year. We are proud to highlight three impressive student accomplishments:

After completing a 4-month field experience, Mildret (Mily) Portugal secured a full-time, permanent position with the Victim/Witness Assistance Program (VWAP). VWAP roles are highly competitive, with limited openings, making Mily’s achievement particularly notable. Securing this position directly from placement is a testament to Mily’s interpersonal skills and commitment to supporting victims and survivors in the justice system.

Abbie Koyata accepted a position as a Bail Supervisor with John Howard Society where she completed her field experience last summer. Utilizing the skills she learned as a CJS student, she took an entrepreneurial path and launched a prison ministry between her church and correctional facilities across the GTA. Her initiative focuses on offering resources, connection, and hope to people inside correctional institutions. Abbie’s leadership demonstrates her deep commitment to restorative justice and community care.

We also celebrate the success of Camille Daley. Through her placement at Toronto South Detention Centre, she secured a permanent position as a Correctional Officer. This significant milestone reflects her resilience, adaptability, and strong commitment to learning in a stressful and challenging environment.

These successes highlight the incredible impact our CJS students continue to make across the sector. We congratulate them all and look forward to witnessing their continued growth and leadership in the justice and community services sector.
