Child and Youth Care Professor Dr. Heather Ramey along with fourth-year BCYC student, Valerie Hazlett, published a new journal article in the Canadian Journal of Public Health. The Young Canadians Roundtable on Health: Promising practices for youth and adults working in partnership was published as an Innovative Policy and Practice article in October.
The article reported on a participatory research evaluation of the Young Canadians Roundtable on Health (YCRH), conducted in partnership by youth and adult allies. The YCRH has some notable achievements including involvement in the Lancet Commission on Adolescent Health and Well Being, and their Youth Health Rights Project, where youth across Canada can learn about their health-related rights. The article reports on successes and lessons learned on engaging youth in public health and has been well received.
The project was a collaborative effort, involving students, youth, and staff from community partners. These included the YCRH, Students Commission, Centre of Excellence for Youth Engagement, Sandbox Project, and Brock and Bishop's Universities. The AstraZeneca Young Health Program created a summary of the article that can be read here.
