How are these three new certificates different than the current Forensic Practice Graduate Certificate offered at your school?
These three new Forensic Practice Certificates are mini-streams of the current graduate certificate. These certificates are geared to students that do not require a lengthier Forensic Practice Graduate Certificate, who want to focus on a specific stream (i.e., Child Welfare, Corrections or Mental Health). Any one of these new certificates can be completed with half the number of courses (only five) whereas the Graduate Certificate requires 10. Students can complete this certificate in as little as eight months, depending on how many courses they take per semester. Students will graduate with a Certificate of Completion in their chosen stream. Because these new certificates are not graduate certificates, students do not require a college diploma or degree to be admitted.
Will the courses I have already completed in the Forensic Practice Graduate Certificate count toward any of these new certificates?
Yes! If you have taken: FSW. 101, FSW. 102, FSW. 105, FSW. 106, FSW. 107, FSW. 109, FSW. 108, FSW. 112, FSW. 201, FSW. 202 FSW. 204, FSW. 205, FSW. 206, FSW. 207, and/or FSW. 208, they will count toward our new specialized Forensic Practice Certificates.
Can I replace one of the required or elective courses with some other course?
No. These new certificates have been approved to run exactly as indicated on their respective curricula.
What if I just want to take one course, like FSW. 112 (Substance Abuse and Impulse Control)? Can I take just that one?
Yes. We welcome students to take what they need to suit their personal interests and career goals. Take one, five or even 10 of our courses if you like!
Can you come to our office and run the program here for our staff?
Absolutely! If there are enough staff interested, we can run the certificate on site at or online for your agency as is, or customize it to suit the needs of your organization.
