The Forensic Identification program had the privilege of inviting Inspector Hank Idsinga from the Toronto Police Homicide Unit as well as Constables Peter Gendi and Lawerence Parsaram from the Toronto Police Forensic Identification Unit to discuss the Bruce McArthur investigation.
Bruce McArthur was charged and convicted of eight counts of first-degree murder. Faculty and students learned about the firsthand accounts of the investigation including surveillance videos, photo evidence, DNA evidence, and digital analysis. Inspector Idsinga also discussed the real-life impacts on the LGTBQ+ community and the City of Toronto as well as their need for transparency.
The class appreciated the time the officers took in giving them, faculty, and alumni the opportunity to learn more about the case from those who were directly involved in bringing justice to the victims. The unique experience allowed students to see how the theory and skills learned in a classroom setting are directly applied in the field to truly bring learning to life.
