Another successful Collaborative Online International Learning (COIL) took place in September, with students in the Bachelor of Addictions & Mental Health (BAMH) program at FSCS.

An exciting three-part Global Speaker Webinar was held for students in justice programs at the FSCS.

During Winter Reading Week, a group of eight students from degree programs across the Faculty of Social and Community Services, flew to Denmark.

The Faculty of Social and Community Services hosted a Global Speaker Webinar on Approaches to Care - Mental Health & Addictive Behaviours.

Humber’s Global Summer School (GSS) is back!

We were thrilled to host five exchange students at the FSCS in Fall 2022.

This summer, all Humber students have the opportunity to study abroad and take courses for Humber academic elective credit or CCR experience.

For Winter Reading Week 2023, eight students from the FSCS, are visiting Odense, in Denmark as part of a three-week COIL initiative.

A group of students from the FI program are headed to the Robert Fram CSI Challenge, held February 24-26, 2023, in Maryland.

This summer, Humber students were able to travel abroad again for the first time since the pandemic.

The Faculty of Social and Community Services (FSCS) aare excited to have welcomed incoming exchange students again for the first time since before the pandemic.

A total of 146 students from around the world enrolled in Humber’s Global Summer School which ran in-person this year.

Criminal Justice students at Humber participated in a COIL project with our academic partner University of West Indies (UWI) - Jamaica Bachelor of Criminal Justice and Master of Criminology programs.

After over two years of travel restrictions limiting mobility opportunities for students, we are excited that in-person study abroad programs have returned!

This semester, while in-person classes, activities and other opportunities resumed, at FSCS, we continued to offer many global learning opportunities virtually.

Virtual study abroad opportunities at our partner institution in Japan, Kansai Gaidai University (KGU) are still being offered this semester, for Humber students.

This Fall, two COILs are running, in partnership with two of our academic partners in Denmark – UCL University College, and UC Absalon.

On October 25, a Global Speaker Webinar brought together a specialist in Canada and the Netherlands on the topic of Working with Developmental & Intellectual Disabilities: Supports & Interventions.

Humber students can participate in semester exchanges again! 

With travel in many parts of the world opened up again, students are participating in study abroad programs across Europe this summer!

Since launching in 2019, over 400 students from 45 different academic programs, 33 academic institutions and 35 countries worldwide have participated.

From March 4 to March 7, Community Colleges for International Development (CCID) held its 46th annual conference in New Orleans, Louisiana.

Humber’s Global Summer School (GSS) is happening again this summer – with plans of hosting the program in person!

This Winter semester, KGU once again offered Humber students an opportunity to take a class remotely there as a virtual exchange student. 

For the second year in a row, International Education Week (IEW) was held virtually from November 15-28, 2021. 

On November 24, 2021, the FSCS hosted a Global Speaker Webinar (GSW) event in partnership with our academic partner, Saxion University.

Humber has won two contracts under the GSO fund, which provides bursaries for low-income Canadian students.

As studying remotely became the norm in 2020, studying abroad also adapted to the new virtual reality...

Off the back of these successful collaborations last semester, FSCS is happy to be working on more COIL initiatives.

This past winter semester, the Child and Youth Care Diploma program engaged in a COIL Project with Parul University, in India. 

During these unprecedented times, non-essential travel has been mostly put on hold across countries and industries. 

In Summer 2021, with travel restrictions still in place, virtual study exchange opportunities continue to be offered to Humber students.

The Community Colleges for International Development (CCID) conference brings together people across sectors from across the world.

The Global Speaker Series is a set of webinars offered to students across programs in the Faculty of Social and Community Services at Humber College.

The Faculty of Social and Community Services has continued to develop transformative global opportunities for students across a breadth of programming while deepening global academic partnerships.

Global learning and engagement are soaring to new heights at Humber!

Students and faculty in the Bachelor of Behavioural Science program had the opportunity to engage with peers and colleagues through a presentation hosted by global academic partner Saxion University.

As with most large events and gatherings this year, the Canadian Bureau for International Education (CBIE) held its first virtual conference this year - CBIE2020.

Developmental Services Worker (DSW) Program Coordinator Andrea Rutherford, and DSW instructor Loris Bennett, were invited to virtually present to students at The University of Technology, in Jamaica.

In September, the FSCS International Peer Mentorship Program was launched to support International Student Success while developing Leadership Skills and promoting Global Fluency.

The Faculty of Social and Community Services is thrilled to welcome Ayesha Amin into the role of Global Learning and Strategic Initiatives Coordinator.

With the world becoming more connected and globalized, intercultural skills have become increasingly valuable.

In February, Senior Dean Derek Stockley, Stephanie Byer and Rebecca Fitzgerald presented at the Community Colleges for International Development.

FSCS faculty member and PC of the BCYC program, Dr. Jaspreet Bal, continues her work as a part of the Denmark Uganda Vietnam Exchange (DUVE).

FSCS is launching its inaugural Peer Mentorship Program for new International Students, welcoming 45 students into the first cohort.

The FSCS is excited to promote Humber’s Global Citizenship Certificate (GCC) open to students across all Humber programs.

FSCS is honoured to be selected as a PIEoneer Award Finalist in the Real Life Learning category for its framework for Faculty-Led Programming.
