Commute Time/Proximity

Prior to confirming a placement, students are responsible to be aware of the distance and travel time of their placement agencies. The FSCS cannot guarantee the proximity of placement as it is dependent on availability.

Hours of Placement

Programs may have certain days that have been scheduled without classes to allow students to attend placement. Students are encouraged to plan to attend placement on these days, but can make arrangements to attend placement on the weekends or in the evenings. Placement hours should not be arranged during scheduled class or exam time.

The maximum number of hours student should be in placement in a day is eight hours. The maximum number of hours students can work in a week is 48 hours. The daily and weekly maximum can be exceeded only if there is a written agreement between the student, FSCS Representative and Placement Supervisor.

Exceeding an 8 hour work day should only occur if students are making up missed hours and not for the purpose of completing the course in advance of the end if the term.

Breaks

Students are entitled to a 30 minute break for every 5 hours worked. This 30 minute break can be taken as two breaks within each five-consecutive-hour work period. The Placement Employer may also decide to allot more than 30 mins for break. It is up to the discretion of the Placement Employer whether time taken for breaks will be counted on timesheets; it’s up to the discretion of the FSCS whether time taken for breaks will be counted as field hours worked.
