Prior Learning Assessment Recognition – PLAR

Students who can demonstrate knowledge and skills gained outside a formal education environment through work, volunteer, or other life experiences, may apply for Prior Learning Assessment and Recognition (PLAR) if that knowledge and skill corresponds to a specific Humber course.

Students should refer to the course outline to see if PLAR is available and may receive no more than 50% of the work placement requirements (paid or unpaid experiences) once registered in a program. Applicants will be required to demonstrate skills and knowledge through the development of a portfolio. Credit will be awarded only for demonstrated learning value and not simply life/work experience. Students are strongly advised to consult with their Program Coordinator prior to applying.

Note that students cannot PLAR failed field courses or courses that are in progress. See the 2019-2020 Admissions Requirements & Academic Regulations for more information. Steps to apply for a PLAR can be found on Humber’s webpage.
