Transportation (Agency and Personal Vehicles)

Some agencies request that students have their own transportation for agency-related business, including the transportation of clients. If this is the case, students are responsible to have adequate liability insurance coverage ($1 million) that includes “occasional transportation of passengers”. Neither the Ministry, WSIB/private insurer, College, nor the Student Federation, Ignite provide the required coverage for the use of a student’s private vehicle while on Field Placement. The use of a student’s car is an agreement that is entered into voluntarily by the agency and student and is not a requirement of the College. The student is advised to obtain proof of coverage from their agency, and to discuss the situation with their private insurance carrier.

If adequate agency or private insurance coverage cannot be obtained, the student should refuse to use their vehicle and should discuss changes to their placement job description with their Seminar Instructor/Faculty Supervisor.

Agency Vehicle

If the student is requested to drive an agency vehicle for the purpose of transporting clients, they should ensure that they have the required personal liability coverage. The purpose of the outline, the skill level of the student, the driving conditions and the supervision in the vehicle should all be considered prior to the student driving an agency vehicle.
