Some programs discuss the practice of restraints for client safety. In order to assist with restraints, students must successfully participate and complete a non-violent intervention training certificate training program prior to starting placement. Students must discuss their training and level of experience with their Placement Supervisor at the onset of their placement and have agency permission to assist with restraints. Differences between College and Agency models of restraints practices should be identified and discussed; training of any required techniques or interventions should be provided by the Agency. Any safety concerns either by the student or agency should be discussed. Students in their first field placement are not permitted to assist with restraints. Where they exist, students are to follow Agency policy on restraint procedures for placement students and volunteers.
