Placement Abroad

Students may propose to complete Field Placement hours and earn field course credits outside of Ontario and/or Canada. Faculty Led Group Trips as well as individually crafted Independent Placement Abroad opportunities are available for students to explore.

Students interested in an Independent Placement Abroad must have successfully completed one level of field and remain in good academic standing. In the case of Faculty Led Group Trips, students do not need to have completed a field course, but can take part in these opportunities after successful completion of their 2nd semester of study as well as remain in good academic standing.

Students should declare their intention to do a Placement Abroad to their Field Placement Coordinator 3 months prior to the intended departure date. All students are required to participate in pre-departure sessions and have all documentation completed and submitted to the FSCS Global Learning Assistant no later than 40 days prior to the intended departure date. Final approval to complete field placement hours abroad will be provided to the student in writing by the Global Learning Assistant 3 weeks before the departure. The cost to register for Placement Abroad is $50.00; this is in addition to the regular cost of the domestic Field Placement course that students are to register for as part of their program of study. The cost of the trip as well as all associated costs are in addition to program fees.

Students who do not receive approval by the FSCS Global Learning Assistant or Manager, International and Strategic Initiatives for Placement Abroad are expected to complete their domestic Field Placements in the regularly scheduled semester, or the next semester where field placement is available.
