Extending Placement Procedure

Students behind in placement hours due to circumstances beyond their control (as listed in the previous section) should notify their Seminar Instructor/Faculty Advisor no later than four (4) weeks before the end of the semester to request a placement extension.

  1. Student to notify Seminar Instructor/Faculty Advisor if placement hours will not be completed before the last day of the placement semester.
  2. Seminar Instructor/Faculty Supervisor and student will decide a new proposed end date (no later than two (2) weeks beyond the end of the semester).
    i. If more than two (2) weeks is requested, the Seminar Instructor/Faculty Advisor will contact the Placements and Partnerships Manager for approval.
  3. The Seminar Instructor/Faculty Supervisor will contact the Placement Supervisor to request the new proposed placement work schedule, number of hours and revised end date; an email will be sent by the Seminar Instructor/Faculty Advisor to the student and Placement Supervisor confirming new details.
  4. At the end of the semester, the Seminar Instructor/Faculty Advisor will enter a grade of Incomplete (INC) until the new end date has been reached; the final grade should be entered just after the new end date.

In circumstances that require significant extension beyond the term for health and wellness or disability related reasons, the student should meet with an ALS Consultant. Recommendations for accommodations will be assessed and communicated by the ALS Consultant to the student and FSCS Representative where applicable.
