The integrity of the placement process is important for the success of all students in the FSCS as well as the maintenance of healthy agency partnerships. Students who stray from procedures outlined in this document risk delaying the placement process and ultimately may not go into the field at the anticipated time; this can in turn result in additional cost, delay completion of the program and therefore, graduation. For a successful placement experience, students should follow the procedures outlined in this document as well as in their program specific Field Experience Guide.
Securing a placement is a competitive process and students should expect that agency availability may change and fluctuate without notice. Once a student is allocated to contact an agency, there is no guarantee that the spot will remain available. Students are to inform the Field Placement Coordinator for a new allocation and continue to work together until a placement has been secured before the deadlines.
Before students can be matched and allocated to an agency to arrange a placement, there are a number of steps to be taken. Students should refer to their program specific Field Experience Guide as well as work in collaboration with their Field Placement Coordinator to prepare to enter the field.
It is the responsibility of the student to stay in communication with the Field Placement Coordinator while securing a placement. Students should check their preferred email and Blackboard Site for any announcements. Students who have not been in communication or working alongside the Field Placement Coordinator in securing a placement may risk not being able to enter the field until the following semester and may incur additional fees as a result of the delay.
Pre-placement documentation is a requirement for all students to enter the field. Information on deadlines, how to apply for and how to submit mandatory placement forms (as well additional, program specific forms) will be found on Blackboard and in the program specific Field Experience Guide.
